A beautiful use of multiple images to create one. I perceptually like this piece for its use of shape and colour. He has chosen particularly colorful fish as to draw the attention of the viewer. I also think it works very well as a double page spread but feel it make have been better as a poster, mainly because it contains lot of detail which would be better seen larger. I looked at this for order and space. It works for both because of the grouping of particular fish which live in more tropical areas. It is a very cleaver way of presenting this kind of data and the shape makes it very clear.

Initial research into order. I looked through a lot of Chase Matts work and he has a large variety of different work. I chose this because 1 it was lego, an iconic toy know for its easily understandable instructions. He has made these characters in the stle of famous film characters. I don't care for this aspect of the pieces but his use of arrows makes it something i felt was worth looking into as its easy to understand the building process.

Aakash Nihalani

Akash Nihalani creates geometric illusion pieces that play on the viewers eyes. A lot of his work is interactive on some level, be it with people, buildings so digital. He has created pieces ranging from interactive videos, fashion, and installation. I really like the interactive aspic to most of his work. i feel that it makes something fairly simple and makes it into something engaging and interesting. He uses tape and foam board to create his public pieces but is know to also use paint and fabric. His simple designs are something that initially didn't interest but the way his work interacts was something that really interested me. Its something that i would like to look into as i feel that interaction has a lot of potential, and if i test and develop further into type iiyt would open up a lot of interesting opportunities. Though i like his use of interaction i think that he should test and develop away from the simplistic geometry. Though i understand it is his style i feel that he is just repeating and re creating the same pieces. His limited color choice is something i like though. He las kept the colors consistent and it makes his work very recognizable. This is why i think he should test and experiment with other materials and processes, because his work is so recognizable it would work on many different levels.

A nice example of how analogue methods and materials can create colours and shapes which can resemble glitches. She she has used a reflective material and has created a publication, prints and taken photos. I am not sure what this material is but i would like to test with sheet plastics such as this. I will look into materials such as this, i am think about looking into acetate and foil. A combination may look really interesting.

Alan Sastre

I really like the colours used in his painting. Im looking at them because its an analogue method to create colours found in glitches. It is something that im looking at just because it looks great, but also because it is a good reference for colour inspirations. It isn't something i will test with but i can see some great uses for the paint.

David Wolske

Some beautiful examples of how print and type can be used in a fairly simple, yet effective way. I really love how the letters are layered and the use of filtering color. I would like to test with this over print week with my type, as in my digital testing i have used similar filtering. I think that using screen printing would work really well with my type and if possible create a filtering like this. I also really like the layering and think that its a really effective and efficient way of creating and presenting type at the same time. The layering creates an image essentially, which is something that i would like to achieve in my work.

Rawz Abduxeedo

A cool use of acetate to filter colour. This is something i want to use and test with for my project. I think it is a cool way of filtering layered letters and a nice way of allowing the user to be involved with it. I wanted to have an interactive aspect in my piece and this is a nice analogue way to do so. I think that this is a really effective example of layering and filtering images and i think it will translate very well with type. Its something i will have to test with but i feel confident that it will work well. I have tested a little with acetate and found that blue and red works best, sop that is what i will test future with. I'm not sure yet what medium i will use for this yet but i will do some testing and planning but i think either a poster or publication will work best.

How to be average By David John Lewis

This is a cool use of layering text. I like that this would be easy to make using analogue methods like ripping and scanning. Its not something that i will test with but i think that the interesting use of different fonts and sizes in one images is quite effective.

Initial research into space

I thoroughly enjoyed researching Tomas. They are very well presented in photos and i am sure the installations are far more impressive in person. The public interaction are of his work was something i found to be the most interesting area. I think  even if it were not interactive it would work well because it looks impressive due to its scale and use of reflections. But allowing visitors to walk with an on the installation is something that really speaks to the children in people. The sense of weightlessness in both pieces is something that is hard to achieve, but works increasingly well when it works. The location was very well thought out. He found an open brightly lit location for almost all of his works. I think the natural light works especially well because it reflects off the balls of IN ORBIT and the plastic for ON SPACE FOAM. i feel that this adds another layer of depth to something that is already distorting it. Also for the viewers that dont participate, the view from below is also very interesting and magical.

Sara Cwynar

Sara has created these pieces by moving the image while scanning. It creates this distorted image, which makes the colour. It is a really simple analogue method of distorting and essentially glitching the image. I have looked at this type of distortion because i want to use analogue methods to distort, and create glitch effects which are seen on digital corrupted images and files. She has used black and white images which seem to be older photos. I think she was trying to present the contrast of older technologies and photography to more modern processes and styles. If this was her intention i think it was well pulled off, and if not i still think it is a successful set of images. I think that there are uses for scanning in my work and would like to test but i would like to stray away from digital distortion such as this, as i would like to keep it as analogue as possible.

Some nice examples of layering and distorted images. I especially like the technique he used For the image below. I like the grainy shadowed image. I also like the image above because of the use of colour. I want to create something that uses an inverted layer with my letter types for print week. I think the process will work really well and wound work well with type. Even though he isnt a well know designer i think his work is quite effective as posters and prints.

Stop frame animation research

Research into how to animate using Photoshop. It seems fairly straight forward and i should be able to grasp is well. I found the instructions very clear and have good direction.

Giorgio Sadotti

Giorgio Sadotti

Giorgio Sadotti Has been a huge influence later on in the project. His use of type to mix and create a combination of letters is really interesting. The rules he uses to create these are what i would like to test and use to create my own. I would like to test with layering different letters to create something that isn't anything but is also everything. Its not something that would be use practically but something more visual based. Something that looks interesting and push what we perceive as image and type. I love his work and how he create a variety of different things using the same elements in different ways. Where he uses mostly grey scale, i want to test with filtering and color to see if i could make it relate better to my glitch and distortion topic.

Giorgio Sadotti

I feel hugely influenced by Sam Winston work. His in depth use of type to create image is very well thought out and developed. The way he has broken down objects into their elemental state and then presents them using devine symbols and sacred geometry to create something associated with the devine. He wanted to create something that showed how people worship objects. He tries to create something that highlights how people in the modern age have become very materialistic, and shows that objects ,like phones are being worshiped over religions. I really love how in depth and compacted his process of creating these pieces and how many different layers they have to them. Everything has been though out. The time he took shows in his high quality prints and etched metal sheets. His other works are also very well thought out, such as the pieces on how many people die a day. Reading about the difference of his attitudes from the start of the project to the end is very eye opening. He had started to associating and naming each circle (represents a person) creating a very sentimental and emotion bond to each circle he was drawing. This passion for his work and the depth he goes into to create something as intertwined and still visually impressive is something i am very inspired by and wish to be able to achieve this level of complexity. I am not so keen on other pieces he has done such as the folded dictionary. I feel that its quite un original and doesn't really have any visual or contextual merits to it. I looked at him because of his use of type in image. Without looking closely it doesn't seem like text and i think thats why i was so interested. Also the way he has distorted the text to by writing or printing the text to create shape is a notable area he has developed. For his Romeo and Juliet piece he created an image simply by writing the book out. Simple as it is it feels elegant and well refined.

Pixel sorter bot

Pixel sorting is something i knew about but didn't know how to do. It is the most natural way to distort and glitch images and i think the way it distorts images is very aesthetically pleasing. Its like smudging but only selects certain areas to do it to. Researching into it i have found multiple methods of doing it, but the most efficient and extensive way is using a program called processing. I will attempt to learn this program which uses html. I think that if it is fairly straight forward i will be able to use it for my type. I will test it and see the results and depending on how hard it is to use ill decide if it is worth using.

HARNESSING ALGORITHMS TO CREATE SHAPE-SHIFTING TYPOGRAPHY

KYUHA SHIM DESIGNS

Kyuha Shim is exploring how we can use data and parameters to create visual systems, increase efficiency and solve certain nagging problems in the world of design. his use of different algorithms has created some amazing work which show that data can be used inn graphic design. I am specifically interested in the use of coding and how he has created controlled randomness, and has used elements in type to create a large range of different styles. One type changes size and style each letter that is used. This makes something that will be individual and different every time that its used, meaning that there is an unlimited amount of possible combinations. This is something that i would really like to explore, by looking into how to create something that will be different every time that its used. Given more time i would learn how to code and create something like this that i would be able to use, but due to time restrains i would like to look into something that can create a type that makes every letter slightly different or distorted as its used.

Dan Mather

Another example of nice layering of type. I really like that it is still legible and the use of silver on black, it makes it stand out and makes it more interesting. The use of colour is really important and its something that i will have to think about when creating my prints and other mediums for the project. I want to test with layering text and see what i can do with it. It seems like i would be able to create some interesting things by reducing or exaggerating certain elements. Much like how Giorgio Sadotti does.
